X MATHS SA II D SECTION SAMPLE PAPER 4


1.       The denominator of a fraction is one more  than  twice the numerator.  If the sum  of the fraction and  its reciprocal is     2-16/21 . Find  the  fraction.
2.       Prove  that  line joining centre of  the circle to pint of contact of a tangent is perpendicular .
3.       A two digit number is four times the sum of its digits.   It is also equal  to three  times the product of its digits.   Find  the number.
OR
The hypotenuse of a right  triangle is 3 root 5 cm.   If the  smaller  side  is tripled and  the larger  side is doubled, the new hypotenuse will be 15 cm.  Find the length  of each side.
4.       The surface  area of a solid metallic  sphere is 616 cm2.  It is melted and recast into a cone of height  28 cm.  Find  the diameter of the base of the cone so formed.
5.       An aero plane flying  horizontally 1 km above  the ground is observed at an elevation of 60°.After  a flight  of 10 seconds, its angle  of elevation is observed to be 30° from  the same  point  on the ground.  Find  the speed of the aero plane in km/hour.
6.       A farmer connects a pipe  of internal diameter 20 cm from  a canal  into  a cylindrical tank  in his field, which  is 10 m in diameter and  2 m deep.   If water flows  through the pipe  at the rate  of 3 km/hour, in how  much  time  will the tank  be filled ?
OR
A container shaped like a circular cylinder having diameter 12 cm and  height  15 cm is full of ice-cream. The ice-cream  is filled  into  cones  of height  12 cm and  diameter 6 cm each having a hemispherical shape  on the top.   Find  the number of such  cones  which can be filled  with  ice-cream.

1.       The speed of a boat in still water is 11 km/hour. It can go 12 km upstream and  return downstream to the original point  in 2 hours 45 minutes.  Find the speed of the stream.

The  difference of squares of two  natural numbers is 45. The  square of the  smaller number is four  times  the larger  number.  Find  the numbers.
2.       A sum  of Rs. 700 is to be used  to give seven  cash prizes  to students of a school for their overall  academic performance.  If each prize  is Rs. 20 less than  its preceding prize,  find the value  of each of the prizes.
3.       Tangents AP  and  AQ  are  drawn to circle  with  centre  0 from  an  external point  A. Prove  that PAQ = 2 OPQ.
4.       A right  triangle , whose sides  other  than  hypotenuse, are  3 cm and  4 cm is made to revolve  about  its  hypotenuse.   Find the volume of the double cone so formed.










OR
       A circus tent is in form of a right circular cylinder and a right circular cone above it. The diameter and the height of the cylindrical part are 126 m and 5 m respectively. The total height of the circus tent is 21 m.  Find the total surface area of the tent.
5.       A bucket  made up  of a metal  sheet  is in form  of a frustum of a cone  of height  16 cm with  radii  of its lower  and  upper ends  as 8 cm and  20 cm respectively. Find the cost of the bucket, if the cost of the metal sheet is Rs. 15 per 100 cm2.    (Use π = 22/7)
6.       A man on the top of a vertical tower observes a car moving toward the  tower.  If  it takes  12 minutes for the angle  of depression to change from  30° to 45°, how  soon  after this car will reach  the tower  ?

The hypotenuse of right  angled triangle is 6 cm more  than  twice  its shortest side.   If third side is 2 cm less than  hypotenuse. find  the sides  of this triangle.
2.        Jaipal  Singh  repays the  total  loan  of Rs. 118000 by paying every  month starting with the first instalment of Rs. 1000.  If he increases the installment by Rs. 100 every  month. What  amount will be paid  by him in the 30th installment. What  amount of loan does he still have  to pay  after  30th installment.
3.       Prove  that  length  of tangents drawn from  an external point  to a circle is equal.
4.       A milk container is made of metal  sheet  in the shape  of frustum of cone whose volume is 10459-3/7  cm  .   The   radii  of its lower  and  upper circular ends  are  8 cm and  20 cm. Find  the  cost of metal  sheet  used  in making the  container at the  rate  of Rs. 1.40 per square cm.
5.       A solid  wooden toy  is in the  form  of cone  mounted on a hemisphere.  If the  radii  of hemisphere and  base of cone are 4.2 cm each and  the total height  of toy is 10.2 cm. find the volume of wood used  in the toy.   Also find  the total  surface  area  of toy.

A circus  tent  is in the  form  of right  circular cylinder and  right  circular cone  above  it. The diameter and  height  of cylindrical part  of tent  at 126 m and  5 m respectively.  The total  height  of tent  is 21 m.   Find  the  total  cost  of tent  if the  canvas  used  costs Rs. 12 per  m2.
6.       A straight highways leads  to the  foot of tower.   A man  standing at the  top  of tower observes a car at an angle  of depression 30 o which  is approaching the foot of the tower with  a uniform speed.  Six seconds later.  the angle  of depression of car is found to be 60 o.   Find  the time  taken  by the car to reach  the foot of the tower  from  this point.

1.       A plane  left  30 min  late  due  to  bad  weather, but  in  order to  reach  its destination 1500 km  away  on  time  it has  to increase  its speed by 250 km/hr.  Find  the  original speed.
2.       A gulab jamun contains sugar syrup up to about 30% of its volume. Find approximately how  much  syrup would be found in 45 such gulab  jamuns, each shaped like a cylinder with  two  hemispherical ends  with  total  length  5 cm and  diameter 2.8 cm.

A solid  iron  pole  consists  of a cylinder of height  220 cm and  base  diameter 24 cm, which  is surmounted by another cylinder of height  60 cm and  radius 8 cm.   Find the mass of the pole, given that 1 cm3 of iron has 8 gm mass.
3.        A spiral is made up of successive semicircles, with centers alternately at A and B, starting from A, of radius 0.5 cm, 1 cm, 1.5 cm. What  is the total  length  of such  a spiral made up  of thirteen consecutive semicircles ?
4.       A container open  at the top  and  made up  of a metal  sheet,  is in the form  of a frustum of cone  of height  16 cm with  radii  of its lower  and  upper ends  as 8 cm and  20 cm respectively. Find the cost of milk which can completely fill the container, at the rate of Rs. 20 per litre.     (use  π =3.14).
5.       Prove  that  the lengths of tangents drawn from  an external point  to a circle are equal.
6.       From  the top  of a light  house  the angle  of depression of a ship  sailing  towards it was found to be 30o.   After  10 seconds the  angle  of depression changes to 60 o.   Assuming that  the ship  is sailing  at uniform speed, find  how  much  time  it will take  to reach  the light  house.

From  a point  on  the  ground the  angle  of elevation of the  bottom and  the  top  of a flagstaff  situated on  the  top  of a 120 m  tall  house,  was  found to  be  30 o and  45 o  respectively.  Find  the height  of the flagstaff.
